Zeolites is nature's miracle. Microporous minerals are formed in places of reactive sites of volcanic rocks and ask layers with alkaline water. Most generic brands don't use pure zeolites simply because pure minerals, formed over thousands of years, are not easy to obtain.

The silica sand we carry for artificial grass installations is considered and “normal” sand. However, knowing there might be many other different type of sand products on the market, I personally don’t see a reason why you can’t use other normal sands for the purpose of infills. Keep in mind that the main purposes of using infills on the artificial turf are to hold the turf down with extra weight to minimize the expansion and contraction during temperature change and also to help fibers to stand up, by that said, normal sands will do the job. You will need to make sure using sands that not harmful to human or pets and at least to be kiln-dried, I definitely recommend against any sands with unknown properties or can cause harm to human, pets or environment. You can use any type of infills for Trainers Turf or any of our artificial grass products. It will be more about your applications of your trainers turf, if you are using the Trainers Turf for dogs, I will recommend Zeofill which will help neutralize the dog urine smells; if you are using the Trainers Turf for regular landscape or sports, any regular silica sands or green sands will work fine; if you have Trainers Turf for kids and you want it to be free of bacteria, you can use our Wonderfill; or if you want to keep the turf cool during warm days, you can use our TCool infill. Please keep in mind that all the infills mentioned above will serve the general purposes of holding down the turf and helping the turf blades to stand up. As far as we know that the dogs won’t eat any infills on the artificial grass. As you can see that infills for turf are either sands or minerals which typically is typically not for dogs appetite, besides once the infills being installed properly, they will sink all the way to the bottom of the turf and very different for the dogs to reach.

When artificial grass is installed properly, even without infills, it won’t have wrinkles. The trick is to make sure installing your turf on a rather warm day, have it “relax” under the sun for an hour or so. And when installing the turf, make sure to use carpet knee stretcher to stretch the turf (this is very similar to how carpet being stretched or installed). You will find the basic artificial grass installation guide on our website: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. You won’t need to replace your T cool infill on a regular basis at all. If you have your artificial grass installed in a situation that it will be easily washed or slipped away, you might need to add some, but you never will need to “replace” it. For most flat installations with regular traffic, you might never need to add more during the whole life time of your turf. Such practice not only apply to T Cool infills, but also to all other type of infills, all to be case by case. If your front yard where the artificial grass on is flat with minimum traffic, your infills should last you years if not lifetime. Here are some factors you take into consideration that might need to add more infills at certain point:

1. Yard is on a slope that rain water will wash away infills.

2. Yard with leaves or debris issues that you you to regularly blow or sweep which might lose infills given time.

3. Heavy traffic can matte down the turf and carry away infills.

It all depends on the size of your artificial grass installation area. If you have a rather small area (300 sf or less), you don’t necessarily need infills if you can make sure to secure the edges of the turf at your installation. The purpose of using infills ok artificial grass are: helping the turf blades standing up better and also providing extra weight to hold the artificial grass down to minimize expansions and contractions. Small areas normally requires just one piece of turf and chances of failing edges and seams are much less if any, and you can always choose a dense and thick engineered blades product from our lineups so not need to worry about to help fibers standing up as such products will Glauber great resilience and standing up nicely on their own. However, for bigger installations, I will always recommend to use certain type of infills. There are several reasons for using infills on artificial grass installations, couple of them are for general purposes, some of them are for specific purposes.

General purpose of using infills on artificial grass:

1. To add extra weight to the turf to minimize the expansions and contractions due to the temperature changes: for many areas that have big temperature differences during day or from season to season, without extra weight on turf, the expansions and contractions can create issues such as turf seams and edges separations or wrinkles on the surface.

2. To help the turf fibers standing up better. With infills on turf, the artificial grass blades will stand up better and more resilient to matted down.

Specific purposes of using infills on artificial grass (you don’t have to use two different types of infills, the following infills will serve the two general purposes above as well along with their special functions);

1. To neutralize the pet urine odor: Zeofill

2. To help keep your artificial grass cool during hot days (TCool)

3. To prevent germ/bacteria from growing: wonderfill (antimicrobial coated green colored sands)

4. To simply feel better psychologically and make entire product more uniformed: Green colored sand

We always recommend to use infills for all artificial grass installations for two main reasons:

1. To help turf to stand up better

2. To give more weight on the turf surface so to minimize expansions and contractions when temperature changes.

You might have seen some advertisings of none infill turf on the market from some artificial grass companies, but it can be false. Most of our artificial grass products are with engineered blades which mean they all have excellent resilience and requires no infills to help the fiber standing up, but the law of physics on expansions and contractions will work its way on turf when temperature changes. When such expectations and contractions happen, you will likely be seeing the separations of seams or edges, even wrinkles can develop. To minimize or avoid such problems, especially in areas that have big temperature differences during a day, infills are always recommended.

Even though there are many different types of infills are available and pricing all differently, the good news is that the most basic silica sands infills are relatively cheap and only be considered as a very small fraction of the overall artificial grass project. This is a very good question. The short answer is NO, the sand infills won't be messy once applied onto the artificial grass. On average, we recommend to use 1.5-2 lbs of infills for all artificial grass installations. Such amount of infills will sink straightly to the bottom part of artificial grass surface, under normal circumstances, the infills will be barely visible at all. Most of installations of artificial turf, it will be hard to see and feel the infills unless you spread the fibers and look for the infills. By that said, there is no concerns whatsoever that infills will make your artificial grass messy. One point I would like to make here is that if your installation is on a rather steep slop, from time to time, your infills can be washed out down the slope in such case, you might notice infills toward lower end of the slope. I always recommend to add additional infills if such washed away situations happen. However, if your installation is on a slope without much of usage or traffic, you can less worry about adding infills periodically. We offer different type of infills including some sands for artificial grass installations, to address your question properly, we need to focus on the functionalities of the infills/sands. There are two basic functions of infills/sands for all artificial grass installations: to provide extra weight on turf to minimizing the expansions and contractions; to help artificial grass standing up. There are also other functions that infills/sands can achieve such as to minimize the dog urine smells, to avoid bacterias and to blend in better with coated colors. It will all depend on your intentions and usages of artificial grass to determine the best value of infills/sands:

1. If budget is your main concern, I will recommend the most inexpensive sands which can take are of the most basic functions for your artificial grass functions.

https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/kiln-dry-silica-sand

2. If color is your main concern, I will recommend the green color coated sands so they will provide all the basic functions of a sand infill yet blend in very well with your turf.

https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/green-sand

3. If you worry the most about your dog urine smells, Zeolite infills will be your top choice as it will help neutralize the smell.

4. If you want to minimize the bacterias on your artificial turf, the top choice will be our antimicrobial coated sand, it is coated with green colored antimicrobial agent to provide the most hygienic results.

5. If you want to minimize the heat on artificial grass, TCool infills will be my top recommendation: it is a sand product coated with cooling agent to dramatically reduce the heat on turf.

This is a good question, the answer is NO: the sands infills on the artificial grass won't get in the house. On average, we suggest to use 2 lbs of infills per square foot on artificial turf, once infills applied onto the artificial grass surface with proper brushing, the sands will find its way to the bottom of the artificial grass, you will not see them or feel them once infill is done. So when you are walking on the infilled artificial grass surface, you will not make contacts with the infill sands, and they will get in the house.

In my own opinion, yes, all artificial turf needs to have proper infills and an installation with infills will perform better and last longer than any non-infill artificial grass surfaces in general. The infilled artificial grass surfaces provide the following benefits:

1. Hold the turf in place with extra weight to minimize the expansions and contractions of the grass surface due to the temperature change. In a long run, infills will help to prevent the failure of edges or joint seams as the turf won't move as much as temperature changes.

2. For putting green artificial grass surfaces, infills will help to increase the ball speed, the rule of thumb is the more of the infill, the faster the ball travels (stimpmeter).

3. Infilled grass will also help artificial grass to stand up better.

You might see some marketing promotions out of there saying some of the artificial grass requires no infills, do not fall to it. Such products will not be able to provide the benefits of above for you.

Infills are always important for artificial grass installations as it will not only help turf fibers standing up but also minimize the expansions and contractions of the grass to prevent wrinkles, seam and edge failures. To your specific question, in my opinion, sand is not the best infill, but the most expensive option. Most of people choose sand infills as it does the job without breaking the budget, there is nothing wrong with sand being an infill product, all other options such as green color and antimicrobial coated products will give you extra upgrades and also cost more.

It will be perfectly fine for you to use sand as infills as it will get the job done. However, if your budget allows, you can go with upgraded version of infills such as green sand, antimicrobial coated sand, zeolite or TCool. Here is the link to all our infill products:

Well, we don't make crumb rubber infills, nor we carry any crumb rubber products. We are the artificial grass manufacturer and not sure if and how crumb rubber infills is safe or harmful to be honest. We don't recommend to use crumb rubber infills unless independent testings been done to prove no harm.

As far as sport fields, I know that people are using crumb rubber for infills to achieve GMax fall ratings (to provide enough cushioning so to minimize the chances of people getting hurt while playing on the artificial grass surface). Up until now, crumb rubber is still widely used in the sports fields. Again, we don't recommend it for our turf unless projects are spec'ed with crumb rubber infill, we will require all the independent testings done on such products to go inside our artificial grass surface before approving it.

For all of residential and commercial landscape applications, we do not recommend crumb rubbers for our artificial grass. If people needs more cushioning for their artificial lawns, we will recommend to use shock pads or lawn pads instead, here is the link for our padding products:

There is no specific infills to be used just for concrete areas, in another word, all infills can be used for concrete area the exactly the same as they would for regular artificial grass lawns. There is no differences or concerns for using any type of infills for artificial grass on concrete surfaces. I am not sure if you would like to add any cushioning feel with the artificial lawn installation, if so, you can always consider to use either shock pad or lawn pad under the artificial turf which will give you the cushioning,.

We always recommend to use a Drop Spreader to apply infills onto the artificial grass. You can find such spreader from most of home improvement centers or hardware stores or landscape suppliers. It is the same spreader people use to spread the seeds. You can find a picture of such spreader at this link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation/

To calculate the amount of infill for synthetic turf, divide the pile height of turf by two, multiply it by the square footage of your area and 0.0833333; you'll get the number of required cubic feet. Multiply this number by the infill weight per cubic feet, and you receive the infill weight in pounds. Silica sand, for example, weighs 80 lb/per cubic feet.

The cheapest types of infill are silica sand and green sand. You can use eco-friendly Super-Fill sand coated with Arch Biocide known for its antimicrobial properties. Zeolite organic infill controls odors and is ideal for pet areas. TCool infill helps to keep the turf temperature down 50% on hot, sunny days; it also adds the benefit of the anti-microbial addictive, BacShield.
