No, you shouldn't do that. The artificial grass is only as good as its base, without a good base, the artificial grass won't look or function well. One of the most important and necessary step of artificial grass installations is building the proper base. There are two main reasons to have a good base: drainage and smooth surface . Placing turf over current grass won't provide either good drainage nor a solid and smooth surface, so we won't recommend to place artificial grass over existing grass.
