Does putting green installation require a special base?

Not really. Regular sub base for any normal outdoor artificial grass installation will be good and sufficient for artificial putting greens. A typical sub base will be about 3-4” thick with bottom layer of drain rock and top layer of decomposed granite or equivalent top layer material to provide a smooth and solid surface.
