Is sand infill required for artificial grass installation or is it not necessary? In what instances would I use it?

We always recommend to use infills for all artificial grass installations for two main reasons:

1. To help turf to stand up better

2. To give more weight on the turf surface so to minimize expansions and contractions when temperature changes.

You might have seen some advertisings of none infill turf on the market from some artificial grass companies, but it can be false. Most of our artificial grass products are with engineered blades which mean they all have excellent resilience and requires no infills to help the fiber standing up, but the law of physics on expansions and contractions will work its way on turf when temperature changes. When such expectations and contractions happen, you will likely be seeing the separations of seams or edges, even wrinkles can develop. To minimize or avoid such problems, especially in areas that have big temperature differences during a day, infills are always recommended.

Even though there are many different types of infills are available and pricing all differently, the good news is that the most basic silica sands infills are relatively cheap and only be considered as a very small fraction of the overall artificial grass project.
